Free Great Birmingham 10k places – Week 1

As mentioned recently, as a programme we are giving away 50 FREE places for the Great Birmingham 10k, on the 1st May. These places are going to those we feel deserve recognition – whether this is due to their fantastic work as a volunteer or a runner with Run Birmingham. Our first couple of announcements are mainly focussed around South of the city.

Take a look at some of the wonderful people involved with our programme!

Kevin Oakes DSC_0269

Our super-enthusiastic event organiser at Great Run Local Ley Hill volunteers his heart out every Saturday Morning, and is a firm-favourite amongst those taking part. His warm-ups bring the whole group together and you’ll always find him after the run at the delicious cake sale.

But what does Kevin love about Great Run Local? He loves seeing the “local community benefit from running” and “seeing the runners improving every week“.

Angus Claridge

Look at how photogenic he is! Never before have we seen someone look so good whilst running. Angus has been a regular at Great Run Local Selly Oak, turning up in the sun, wind, rain and snow. And he doesn’t stop smiling!

But why does Angus love running? “There’s such a great spirit at Great Run Local. Everyone is in it together and whilst I sometimes want to stop before the end of the race, it’s a great feeling when we all finish.”

Eirys Morley-Jones

Eirys leads the Vale Running Group every Monday evening at 6pm, and regularly either volunteers or runs at Great Run Local Selly Oak. With such great commitment to the Run Birmingham programme, she’s absolutely deserving of a free place on the Great Birmingham 10k. She loves the group mentality of Run Birmingham events “because you can motivate each other and can socialise while you keep fit”.

Anastasia Shvedko

Anastasia also helps to lead Vale Social Running Group every Monday evening. She’s enthusiastic, fun and a truly great volunteer. But why did she initially choose to volunteer with Run Birmingham? She was attracted by the “volunteering projects, as well as coaching for a Run Leaders. It was all I was looking for. I like both, learning and exercising”. This all came together to provide her with a great opportunity to make friends whilst keeping fit.

Rob Eves

Rob Eves

Rob is a Run Birmingham Stalwart, regularly turning up to Both Great Run Local Selly Oak and Ley Hill. His love for running is because it’s accessible – “It’s completely free and anyone can do it. It’s so much nicer running with other people, than it is by yourself!”

HUGE thanks to you all for taking part with Run Birmingham and keep an eye out for more announcements about who’s representing us in the Great Birmingham 10k in May!
